Dear Friends and Supporters,

It has indeed been a while since the last Carver Chronicles, and it has been a very busy few months! We are now well and truly into the New Year, and with it comes a happy announcement. Andrea is expecting our third child! She is due to give birth mid-July, which puts her now at 25 weeks. We are very excited about it. This is sure to add extra flavour to to an already-flavoured life!

We have also been busy with Bible School. We were glad to have Mum & Dad come up for 5 weeks, and while they were here, we ran some Night Bible School courses, Attendance was fantastic; a total of 66 students came for the series of courses, and the feedback that we got showed us how needed and necessary Bible School is. This course was aimed particularly for the working people who are not able to attend a day-time course, and many pastors and leaders enrolled, eager to receive some input that would help them in their local churches.

Actually, the whole thrust of the last few months has been toward the Bible School. The Bible School has been able to acquire some blocks of ground, which will enable us to expand from our current one-building setup to a full complex of dormitories and classrooms, etc. The first immediate project that the church has taken on is to build a Missionary House, so that a missionary can be stationed full-time at the Bible School complex and oversee the operations thereof. The Gration family are due back toward the end of the year, and the church in PNG is keen to contribute toward this project. They are fully convinced of the necessity of Bible School to carry the church forward, and know that training facilities and personnel must be the primary goal.

Fundraising Day
The church in PNG gets serious about fundraising to build a house for Missionaries at the Bible School

The Eastern Highlands region paved new ground in this regard; they had a fundraising day to raise funds for a Missionary House. A large number of people gathered at the Bible School on February 14th for a fundraising feast, offering in hand. Both church and non-church members alike contributed, and we raised a total of over K7600 (7600 Kina) towards this goal. There was much excitement amongst the members for achieving this goal; it is the first time that they have attempted such a project. It is the first of many such fundraising efforts the PNG church will do.

Another first was the sending of a Missions Team to West Papua (Indonesia). It was the first time that the PNG church has reached beyond their borders, and we believe it is the start of more such efforts.

I think the hardest time in the last few months was my journey to Kundiawa, Chimbu Province. I went there with Dad for a Ministers & Leaders Seminar, which was a great blessing; but oh the struggle afterward! The day we were to return home, and landslide cut the highway, and we were stranded in Kundiawa with no money, no water, no change of clothes, no diesel, and no way to get back home to be with our families. It is quite a story; one that we will never forget (and probably shortened a few months off our lives), so do take a read of the link below:

Now that's singing! Walking across the landslide
Now that's what I call singing! Me and Dad give our best to bless the Chimbu Ministers with a song At long last! We finally cross the landslide back to "home territory" after being stranded in Chimbu

Thank you for being co-labourers with us and Jesus, and sharing in both “our sufferings and the glory which is to be revealed” - the glory of many souls redeemed. We have one goal: that is to see people come to know our Saviour, and to labour for him in his harvest.

God bless you all,

- Richard & Andrea Carver, Laura & Timothy (and one more to come)...
