Travel Diary for March & April:

Early March saw us flying further north to Minnesota for a Missions conference (see the article and photos on this conference) in Duluth. We flew to Minneapolis and then drove for a couple of hours north to Duluth, a city that sits in the western edge of Lake Superior. We were expecting snow and very cold weather but it turned out that the weather was mild and clear. We spent a very pleasant three days here.

Missouri was our next stop and we could see signs of spring with trees showing some signs of green. We criss-crossed the state for services, but we were able to be with some great people and in some great churches from a new Home Missions church to a growing and upbeat church pastored by the Trimbles!

We moved on into Arkansas where it was wonderful to see trees in full bloom - cherry and Bradford Pears in profusion. Our time in Arkansas was highlighted by the fact that a kind pastor gave us three days at a lovely hotel in Hot Springs! This is a tourist area due to the literal hot springs which flow freely. Bath houses were built here in the late 1800’s and people came from all over the world to bathe in the hot, healing waters. We enjoyed a day out with former missionaries Br and Sis Bettis, who kindly toured us round the town.

From Arkansas we dropped down into Texas where we have spent all of April, driving from Dallas/Fort Worth down to as far south as Victoria, a couple of hours from the Mexican border. We spent a week in the Lufkin area and then moved on to Austin, the capital for the South Texas conference. Here we met up with other missionaries and were privileged to hear Bro Terry Pugh and Bro David Bernard preach at the conference. We had a few days to spare, so at the invitation of our dear friend Brother Kilgore, we drove to Houston and spent a few days there. During that time it was Richard’s 60th birthday. We celebrated it with the Kilgores, eating at fine seafood restaurant.

The last part of April has been in south Texas, where we have enjoyed good fellowship and good churches. We are writing this from Austin where we are to be with Brother Bernard and his church. Austin is a lovely city full of green trees, well manicured gardens and good coffee shops!

As we have driven the long roads of Texas we have see the many wildflowers growing along the interstate and country roads. The weather is warm and spring like and a wonderful change from the ice and snow of the past 4 months.
