Travels in the USA- August 2006

Pacific Missionaries Lunch
Pacific Missionaries Breakfast

Our thoughts and prayers are with each one of you and each day we are remembering you all in prayer.

Our first month here has been very eventful. There was some confusion over our vehicle in Houston, Texas, but we flew onto St Louis and spent many days getting some government matters sorted out, opening new bank accounts and acquiring a new US drivers licence.
We stayed for a number of days in a motel near the Headquarters. We had the chance to go to dinner with Bro and Sis Denny (Regional Director for the Pacific) along with the Addingtons from New Zealand.

The following week we were able to rent a car and move to our “home base” with Br and Sis Larry Blake (former missionaries to Liberia and Ghana) in Illinois. Here we were welcomed as family and have spent some time with their married children and their families at dinners and birthday parties! They have been so kind as to make us feel at home.

Pacific Missionaries
Pacific Missionaries at School of Missions

The last 10 days of August were spent at School of Missions. This is a once in 5 year event for us and for any missionary home for their leave. The school is held at a very lovely retreat area. Here we were joined by 50 other missionary couples, the Foreign Missions staff and guest teachers including Brother Haney, Brother Rick Flowers, Brother Stoneking and daily Bible Devotional teacher Brother Larry Blake. We renewed old acquaintances and had many good times of fellowship and laughs. We took walks around the lake and tried out the coffee shop in the town square. On the Sunday there was a special luncheon prepared for Pacific region missionaries. This was the largest group to ever be together at the School (about 9 couples) We had many good classes on important subjects, with the longer serving missionaries teaching in the afternoon classes. However these good times quickly came to a close and we parted ways.

There is a delay in beginning our travels because of the paper work that has to be done before we can collect our car. In a few weeks we will go to the General Conference in Columbus, Ohio and from there we hope to begin on our travels.
