Travel Diary - August & September, 2007News from the Carvers for August & September 2007
Travel Diary for August & September: Our last couple of months have seen us drive through a good section of eastern Texas. We enjoyed a day at the Oil Museum in Kilgore looking at the history of finding oil and how it changed the towns and communities around. It is a wonderful museum which includes some inter-active displays. We were with some friends in this area of Texas and had opportunity to eat out at a lovely restaurant.
From Texas we made the long drive to Florida along the Gulf coast, which we had traveled earlier last year as far as Alabama. Our time in Florida was good and we attended a number of church services for our missions promotion. We had some free time while in Orlando so we made a second visit to ‘The Holy Land Experience’. We had visited here back in 2001 but since that time they had added the Scriptorium. This was of particular interest to us as it displays a number of original manuscripts dating from the 1st century. The 55 minute tour was well worth the time and we found it very moving. What a great price was paid for us to hold the Bible in our hands!
Our final time in Florida was spent in Tampa at the General Conference where we were able to catch up with many friends including many missionaries we have known over the years. We assisted in the Missions display area and were able to attend services. The Foreign Missions service on the Friday night was a wonderful service. Not only because it was here that our final fundraising was achieved, but the great spirit that accompanied the service was inspiring and moving. The message preached was powerful and life changing! Our commitment was challenged and strengthened and we felt so privileged to be part of this great team around the world.
So as of General Conference, we have officially finished our Deputation Travels. We will be sad to say good bye to many long time friends, pastors and acquaintances we have been with over these 14 months. We will now be making our way back to Australia and Papua New Guinea and this travel diary will come to a close! Richard and Margaret Carver
