Southern Region Conference, Port Moresby

November 17-21 2004

Erima Church
The Crowd at the Southern Conference

Wednesday night Nov 17 was for Pastors and leaders at Erima Church. About 100 people attended and Bro Carver taught on ‘The Father's Word for those who feel forsaken’. The subject of the message was to strengthen those who are struggling. 1 Samuel 16:1-13,14 was the key verse in the message, relating to David almost being 'forgotten' in the list of Jesse's sons. Psalms 51:1-5 tells us a little of Davids birth, with Psalm 27:10 adding to this. Through it all, though, David had a heart for God.

Thursday night Sis Carver taught the women on the ‘Work of a wife and mother’. About 220 ladies attended this teaching session which was followed by a question time.

On Friday night Nov 19 we gathered at the Nine Mile Church . About 200 were present for this evening service. Bro Carver preached on the ‘Feeding of the Five thousand’. God is a God of order, and Jesus firstly asked the disciples to see what they could give from their own resources to feed this crowd. A boy (someone who was not important or who held no position) made an offer of 5 loaves and 2 fishes (John 6:8). We must be willing to offer the little we have and then the Master will take it and multiply it. Before Jesus fed the crowd He had the disciples organise the crowd into fifties (Luke 9:14, Mark 6:40). Before any miracle can take place or God moves in a special way, we in the church will have to be organised and pleasing to the Lord.

November 20th - Opening of the Rock of Ages Church, June Valley

This special event took place on Saturday morning in the Port Moresby suburb of June Valley. About 250-300 were present to see this event and they waited on the road outside the church until the singers came with their welcome song. Brother Carver cut the first ribbon at the gate of the church compound. We then followed him to the door of the church where another ribbon was cut, giving access to all to come into the church. A third ribbon was cut at the platform and then the pastors and guests took their seat.

The church was beautifully decorated with the dyed laplaps (wraparounds) that had been the main fundraising project.

The Pastor, Brother Toredau, gave a brief history of the church. He told us that it had taken 7 years to complete this building. In July 1996 Nathaniel and Norma Toredau were commissioned from Nine Mile Church with 2 elders and their families who resided in June Valley, to start a church. In this group there were 16 adults and 21 chidlren. In July 1996 the first meeting was held under a house, then in a tent. Land was then donated to the church and Nine Mile church provided the materials for a roof and floor. From this point on it took another 7 years to complete the building.

This church at June Valley has send out two men to preach and start works: Bro Andrew has gone to Lavila in Goila Central and Bro Wapu has gone to Kine in the Eastern Highlands .
