PNG National Conference 2005
A river of people receiving the Holy Ghost...
 |
| "... rivers of living water..." |
Papua New Guinea’s National Conference was held over the Easter weekend. The Conference Speaker was special guest Bruce Howell, General Director of Foreign Missions, along with former missionaries to this country, Brian and Esther Henry, Regional Director Richard Denny, Brother Terry Fleetwood and Board member from Australia , Dennis Jacobsen.
On the first evening about 9000 gathered in the open air sports ground in Goroka, the Highland town 5,200 feet in the mountains. It was with much excitement and anticipation that church members gathered for three days of preaching and fellowship. On the Friday night after Brother Howell preached there were 58 who received the Holy Ghost and 35 baptised in Jesus name. However by the Saturday evening an expectant crowd listened to the anointed preaching of Brother Howell. With the ministry gathered at the altar, facing the crowd, Brother Howell called for all those who wanted the Holy Ghost. Hundreds came forward and within minutes they were receiving the Spirit.

Praying at the Altar |
To try and keep a count on who received the Holy Ghost, the ministry were asked take them to one side of the altar. Before us we saw a river of people being taken from the front of the platform to the side, as one after another received their own glorious infilling of the spirit. This continued for over an hour and by this time we had counted at least 500!
The Sunday services were also greatly blessed with a heartfelt farewell for Brother and Sister Henry and then great preaching by Brother Denny that night, with a further 85 receiving the Holy Ghost in the same manner as the previous night.
In total we saw over 750 receive the Holy Spirit and 87 baptised in Jesus name. This was a conference for all to remember!
