The National Youth Conference was held in Mendi, Southern Highlands Province during July 7-10. Guest speakers were Brother Nigel Ali, from Suva, Fiji and our resident Aimer Brother Peter Gration. They travelled by car from Goroka to this remote province where between 900-1000 youths gathered for the long-awaited camp.

The theme for the camp was Isaiah 6:8: "Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send and who will go for us? Then said I here am I Lord, send me".

On the first evening of the camp the Regional co-ordinators from the various regions preached to the crowd that had gathered. On the Friday morning there was teaching and then in the evening Brother Nigel preached from Hebrews chapter 13:5-8: Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. At the crowded altar 5 were filled with the Holy Ghost and 11 wanted to be baptised in Jesus name.

On the Saturday morning there was a special welcome service and a presentation of gifts to the guests. Brother Gration preached on the theme of our camp, Here am I Lord. This was a wonderful encouragement to the youths to offer themselves to the Lord for His work. At the conclusion of the message there were 10 Holy Ghost filled and 8 baptised. A young man by the name of Phillip was one of the ten that received the Spirit that morning. He testified that he had been baptised in 1992 but had never received the Holy Ghost until that day- a wait of 13 years. He did not have the money to travel to the conference but a brother assisted him with the fare and now Phillip was rejoicing! He consecrated himself to do the work of the Lord.

On the Saturday evening Brother Nigel preached on James 5:22. At the conclusion to the service, after everyone having a time of repentance, brothers began to lay hands on brothers and sisters on sisters and all had a beautiful time of prayer and praising God. People began to cry and shout for joy. As we continued worshipping, very heavy rain began to fall. Not one person moved to shelter from the rain. Those on the platform came down and all began to worship and praise God in the rain. To their astonishment the sky over Mendi became a dark thunderstorm and lightning began falling and tremendous thunder claps roared and echoed through the valley like we have not heard before. People in the nearby guest house/hotel came onto the field where the Youth camp was held and began praying and repenting! They asked our brothers to lay hands on them as they had never seen anything like this before. These people confessed that “truly God is with you”.

On Sunday morning Brother Nigel preached on Col. 2:6-9 that we may be rooted and established and built in the Lord. After this beautiful message 23 were filled with the Holy Ghost and a further 9 were water baptised. The sick were anointed with oil and prayed for and many received their healing that morning (40 testified of healing). Thank God for such a wonderful time and the special guests that visited us this week end!
