This past month has been exciting! We were blessed to have Brother Carver and his son, Brother Richard here with us as we worked together to prepare an apartment in the downstairs of the Mission House. This was a big job, as much of the electrical wiring had to be replaced as it had been eaten away by rats after it had been poorly installed sometime in the years past. We thank the Lord that now it is almost completed and will provide wonderful accommodation for many of our visitors to Papua New Guinea.
BIBLE COLLEGE
|
Village scenery on our way to Section 1
We are looking forward to starting Bible College classes on the 7th February. These will be held in the new Training Center that was built by Brother and Sister Maxwell and their team from the United States.
We are commencing classes with approximately 45 students. Robyn and myself with be teaching and we look forward to the arrival in the next few days of Sister Sheila Waddle from Andover, Minnesota. Sister Waddle will be assisting with the teaching.
The bulk of our students have come from the Eastern Highlands Province, which is to be expected since that is where the Bible School is located. We do have four students from Mendi in the Southern Highlands, another from Chimbu and two students from Lae in Morobe Province. This coming year will be the first year of a two year course.

Section One conference, EHP Region
I went with Brother Matam (presbyter for Eastern Highlands Region) to a village in the area known as Asaro. This is in Section One of the Region, and was for the Sectional Conference. Twenty seven people were baptized in Jesus’ Name and we have two young men who are now coming to Bible College this year through what the Lord did during the Sectional Conference. I will share a little bit of humor and the reality of life in PNG... as we traveled to Asaro we came across tree branches lying across the road. We were stopped, charged K2.00 (about 75c), they removed the branches and allowed us to pass through. As we drove off, they replaced the tree branches across the road again ready for the arrival of the next vehicle. Thankfully on our return after church, they had either grown tired of the game or figured they had earned enough money, as they had disappeared.

The mudslide which prevented us from getting to the Ramu Sugar conference
The weekend before Christmas we traveled to Morobe Province to attend the Sunday morning service of a Regional Conference held at Ramu Sugar. We traveled down on the Sunday morning. Unfortunately as we headed down Kassam Pass we were stopped by a large mud slide that had occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. We had to return to Goroka, as those who were clearing a way through the five feet of dirt that covered the road were still 3 to 4 hours off finishing. Unfortunately we were unable to attend the Conference.
On Thursday 22nd December, Robyn and I traveled by road to Mt. Hagen to attend a Western Region Ministers Training Seminar and Christmas “breakup”. Both Robyn and myself taught on Thursday evening and on the Friday morning. We headed back to Goroka on Friday afternoon.

A truck wreck on the way to Mt Hagen - another obstacle to overcome!
Both of our children are back at school after the Christmas holidays. Nathaniel is under the American School year and started back on the 10 th January for Term 3 of Grade 9. Kerri-Sue started back on the 31 st January, commencing Grade 3. We thank everyone who has made it possible for our children to receive an education that will allow them to take their place in a first world country upon graduation.
Yours in Christ
Peter J Gration
