| Our son Richard translating for Guest Speaker Robert Addington, Missionary to New Zealand |
National Conference 2009 in Port Moresby
Easter 2009
Uploaded: 9 July 2009
Story by Richard S. Carver
Our National Conference was located, for the first time in many years, in the capital city of Port Moresby. The unusual thing about this city is, it is only accessible by air from most parts of Papua New Guinea. This meant many of our church members outside of the immediate area would be unable to attend. However it did allow for those in this area to attend, as they rarely get to attend conferences because of the considerable expense of air travel, and we were glad to see over 2000 each evening.
Our guest speaker was missionary Superintendent from New Zealand, Rev Robert Addington.
His teaching and preaching over the following five days was excellent and reflected his many years on the field, in knowing how to present and approach the subjects he covered.
Ministry and church member alike went away with a deeper understanding of the word of God and a renewed walk with Him. A group of men walked for three days from the interior region of Papua to attend this conference. Some came from the far flung islands of East New Britain, travelling by boat and truck and then walking the remaining distance.

Leadership Seminar
This event was held in the two days preceding the Conference and between Brother Addington, myself, Sister Carver and our son, Aimer Richard J Carver, some valuable and pertinent subjects were covered. These included: The most important thing in our life, Spiritual Leadership, Free from Generational Curses, the Value of Weakness, Christian marriage.
Over 80 ministers and leaders attended the daily sessions.
National Conference
Conference began on the Friday evening with about 2000 filling the large indoor stadium. Over the next two days Brother Addington ministered on Calvary and the price Jesus paid for our salvation. The altar was filled as people wept tears of repentance and many received a fresh infilling of His spirit. Aimer, Richard J Carver preached a message that will not be forgotten on "The Unity of the World" and on Sunday morning the I preached the Superintendents Message, giving direction and warning the saints to be prepared for His coming. Over 32 were filled with the Holy Spirit. Baptisms were done after the conference in their respective areas.
A special part of the Conference was the World Missions slide presentation showing the visit of five of our national leaders to West Papua (the Indonesian side of the island of New Guinea). Their purpose was not only to visit the church in Jayapura but to assess the possibility of sending a missionary from Papua New Guinea to this Indonesian side of the island. Read more about this mission trip here.
At the Conference a call was made for men and women to come forward and commit themselves for missionary work. This was the first of its kind in the history of the PNG church and we were blessed to see the great response.
