Arrival of the Paitadra Family

September, 2011

Uploaded: 21 December 2011

Story by Richard Carver (Jnr)

Richard Carver JnrIn September 2011 we were so happy to have the arrival of a new missionary family to PNG, Rev & Mrs Paitadra from Fiji. They had been to PNG a number of times previously for guest speaking arrangements, and Bro Pai had spent a few months travelling around conducting seminars.

Bro Pai had felt the burden to come to PNG full-time as a missionary, and with the departure of the Gration family earlier in 2011 to transfer to Vanuatu, this left a big unfilled need in PNG, especially in the Bible School.

It was with great anticipation then that the church in PNG awaited the Pai family's arrival in September 2011. Their arrival was not without sacrifice, however. On the eve of their departure from Fiji, we were very saddened to hear that their daughter Unaisi had passed away suddenly from a very short and severe illness. Bro & Sis Pai had already made their way to the airport, ready to board the plane, when the news reached them a few hours before boarding.

Bro & Sis Pai delayed their flight so they could be present for the funeral and burial, and then came to PNG two weeks later. They were welcomed at the airport by church leaders and members, all very grateful and emotional.

Since being here, Bro Pai has been very active, conducting Bible School Teacher Training, Seminars, Youth Leaders Training, among other things, to help the work in PNG. However, their arrival brought to the attention of the PNG church just how much sacrfice and dedication is given by missionaries to our country. To work for God is often not easy, and to work for God in PNG is certainly never easy. We so much appreciate men and women like Bro & Sis Pai who, in spite of great personal loss, are willing to dedicate themselves to help their brothers and sisters in need in a far-off country like PNG.
